In case you are too young to remember Christopher Plummer from his Sound of Music days, he’s done a lot of performing since the 1960’s.

Tony and Emmy winner Christopher Plummer voiced the villain Charles Muntz in the huge Disney/Pixar hit “Up.”

Then he earned his first Oscar nomination — about time, Academy — last year for his portrayal of Leo Tolstoy in the historical drama “The Last Station.”

The Sarasota Film Festival presents Plummer with its highest honor, the Cinema Master Award, at the Filmmaker Tribute.

You can attend “In Conversation with Christopher Plummer,”  April 17, 2011 – 12:00pm at the Sarasota Opera House.

Another honoree of the 2011 Sarasota Film Festiva, is the highly acclaimed actress, Geena Davis.

Geena Davis superbly played one of the greatest, stereotype-busting parts ever written for a woman — and by a woman — in the landmark film “Thelma & Louise.”

She continues to promote equality in Hollywood behind the scenes with the highly influential Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.

Festival organizers first saw the documentary about the lack of women in positions of power at Sundance earlier this year. Soon after, they had the idea to honor Davis with their inaugural Impact Award.

“Thelma & Louise” probably has done more to advance gender equality than any big-budget movie to hit theaters.

Released 20 years ago this May, the film shocked audiences and created a media maelstrom.

The Oscar winner will accept on April 16 at the Sarasota Opera House. Davis also has talks scheduled at two other festival events closing weekend.

In July 1998, international and independent film enthusiasts founded the Sarasota Film Festival, Inc. (SFF). They sought to create a balanced festival of foreign and domestic film complemented by the participation of the film and entertainment industry.
