Hidden Sarasota/Bradenton: Horseback riding on the beach

20 Jul

Horseback riding on the beach - there's nothing like it in Sarasota. There are so many things to do in the Sarasota area, it’s hard to believe anyone would run out of ideas. Like most vacationers and visitors, you probably have your calendar loaded; but it never hurts to find unique ideas that you might not have otherwise considered.

Each day in Palma Sola Bay, you can go horseback riding directly on the beach – at 10:00am!  Not only is this a beach that’s popular with horse owners, but dogs, too.

Ride bareback on the beach and swim with your horse! It’s so cool. When the horse gets into the deep water the water rushes over its back and you feel like you’re riding a dolphin. And, unlike swimming with dolphins, this is actually good for the horse and much safer for the (human) participant.

Driving west on Manatee Avenue (SR-64) from Bradenton to Anna Maria Island, the road crosses Palma Sola Bay via a causeway. When the road narrows from 4 lanes to 2, there is a public beach on both sides of the highway.

There’s plenty of parking and the Florida Dept of Transportation has done a great job of landscaping the causeway.

Even if you’ve never had an opportunity to go horseback riding before, you’ll love the opportunity to enjoy the beach in a whole new way!
